Sensors, IoT and M2M

Smart Enterprise Monitor engine can communicate with multiple diverse Internet of Things (IoT) and automation control systems via common high level communication protocols and API. Its underlying PharosN platform allows compliances to key IoT connectivity standards for data exchange. Specific proprietary protocols used by the some hardware manufacturers are converted into high level http protocols using dedicated gateways and bridges. As the result the PharosN meets the challenges of data collection and exchange with heterogeneous data sources such as smart meters, sensors, in large variety of real world objects like machines, vehicles, buildings, offices, homes, industrial, ehealth, water, waste and environment management and other systems.

The PharosN platform supports open access protocols REST API, SOAP, MQTT and SNMP for JSON structured data as well as standard Message Queuing Telemetry Transport (MQTT) accordingly to ISO standard ISO/IEC PRF 20922)and Constrained Application Protocol (CoAP) as specialized Internet Application Protocol for constrained devices (RFC 7252 ) publish-subscribe-based messaging protocols. If sensors or actuators have different industrial protocols such as M-bus, ModBus, BACnet, KNX, etc, the data is collected using relevant additional controllers – bridges. The OPC UA machine to machine communication protocol is used for linking PharosN with industrial automation devices and systems.

The overall generic structure of PharosN optional linkages to heterogeneous IoT environment is illustrated by the following diagram.

The dotted block in the Picture refers to the systems which are not described here but allow access to monitoring functions via some network protocols. If the protocol is missing in the list it can be promptly implemented by the Smart Enterprise Monitor development team upon customer request. Some new standards and relevant technologies under implementation will be supported in the releases of the platform upgrades.

It should be taken into consideration that Smart Enterprise Monitor platform can automatically import the stored sensor data from structured databases or files using its data import procedures as well.
